Caught on Camera…..

Caught on Camera.....

The cooler weather is finally here with the leaves changing colors, meaning the Fall Hunting season is upon us. A super time to reflect on a busy summer and to plan trips for the Fall Hunt. Multiple seasons start in a matter of weeks....Deer (archery), Small Game, Waterfowl and Fall Turkey. That means a whole lot of time spent in the field searching for that trophy.

As I had my own reflection time this evening, I enjoyed watching two sets of a doe and fawn grazing in a open field to the east of our home. The does coats ...

Rag Field Tested….

Rag Field Tested....

What better way is there to determine if a product is a hit or a dud? Field Test the product for months through the hands of avid anglers and hunters. That's exactly what Davis J. Hennes did, the parent company for the Rod and Rifle Rag.

We had (100) of our Rags in the paws of members in The North American Hunting Club for a portion of last and this year. Through that time we attended outdoor shows in the State of MN and NV hoping to hear someone come up to us and tell us they are Field ...

Where Have All The Woodsmen Gone?

Where Have All The Woodsmen Gone?

I must admit I am a romanticist. I grew up being infatuated with famed woodsmen like Daniel Boone or Davey Crockett, and fictitious characters like Arny, the grizzled frontiersmen in the book INDIANFUR. Nowadays when I watch shows on TV about hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors all I see are fast bass boats and expensively dressed gunners hunting pen-raised birds on a game farm. Are these the outdoors men of today?

I may be overly critical, but the outdoors and the great men and women who challenged it hold a place in my heart. These are the ones that knew ...

Live Bait is the Real Deal….

Live Bait is the Real Deal....

It's old fashioned, it's frowned upon by purists and it can be messy - but live bait is still the best fish-catchin' thing you can put on the end of your line!

Live bait has been the standard way to catch fish for decades, probably millenniums. I'm sure if someone were to investigate, artifacts and carbon dating will reveal the earliest hunters and gatherers threaded a worm on some sort of hook. And do you know what? We really haven't invented anything better since.

Currently in the age of spectacular advances in technology, the newest, most expensive fishing lures will ...

New Ways with Walleyes….

New Ways with Walleyes….

Perhaps no other place in the country offers more to the walleye fisherman than right here in Central Minnesota. Our glacier-styled lakes and the winding Mississippi River make the perfect walleye habitat.

Along with the walleyes, and other fish, come the fishermen. Every good lake, stream and river is fished continually from opening to closing of the season. Is it any wonder the fishing can be tough?

Dealing with pressured walleyes is perhaps the biggest challenge angler’s face. There is one thing than can help you catch more walleyes, it’s to be flexible and experiment. Walleyes can get ...

Ice Fishing in Minnesota....

So I was ice fishing at Gull Lake in Brainerd, MN and I was using a swedish pimple. I use them because I like them, also there really nice. I went out Thursday and Friday and caught nothing. I was in 20 feet of water. I went out deeper to 80 feet, put down the swedish and right away hooked one that felt nice. I pulled up a 2lb walleye. Nice fish, so I called my uncle and he came out to fish. My uncle used a look a like perch jig. He caught a fish half way down and ...
